Ryle Raiders

2014 Schedule

AUG. 22 -- COOPER 12, RYLE 3

With the score tied, 3-3, early in the fourth quarter, Cooper junior tailback Torey Cordell-Armstrong scored the game’s only touchdown on a 7-yard run and Mitchell Hollifield kicked the extra point to put their team on top. Marcus Watson, a junior defensive lineman, capped off the Jaguars’ scoring by sacking Ryle quarterback Ryan Rytlewski in the end zone for a two-point safety with 57 seconds left on the clock.

In the second quarter, Ryle used a flea-flicker pass play that picked up 41 yards to set up its only score. Grant Arnwine caught the pass and was pulled down at the 7-yard line. But the Raiders were unable to advance on the next three plays so Max Bouldin kicked a 22-yard field goal that tied the score at halftime.

Cooper finished with 174 total yards (106 rushing, 68 passing) compared to Ryle’s 122 total yards (27 rushing, 95 passing).

AUG. 29 -- SCOTT COUNTY 46, RYLE 14

Scott County took a 36-0 lead in the first half and rolled to an easy victory over the visiting Ryle Raiders.

The Cardinals scored their first five touchdowns on running plays and finished with more than 300 rushing yards. Ryle got a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter on a 3-yard run by Collin England and an 8-yard pass from quarterback Ryan Rytlewski to Grant Arnwein.

SEPT. 5 -- SYCAMORE 34, RYLE 14

Ryle senior wide receiver Grant Arnwein caught two touchdown passes from sophomore quarterback Aaron O'Hara in the fourth quarter to get the Raiders on the scoreboard after falling behind 34-0 to their Ohio opponent.

Ryle finished with 197 total yards (149 passing, 48 rushing) and had two passes intercepted. One of the interceptions was returned
for a touchdown in the second quarter.

SEPT. 12 -- RYLE 50, CONNER 22

Conner senior Isaiah Ebarb returned the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown, but that was the only time the Cougars led in the game.

Ryle scored six of its seven touchdowns on running plays with Collin England and Mitchell Bateman getting two each. The Raiders only passing touchdown came on a 26-yard strike from quarterback Ryan Rytlewski to wide receiver Grant Arnwine.

Conner quarterback Kyler Padgett scored on a 2-yard run and threw a 20-yard scoring pass to Tanner Nyers.

SEPT. 19 -- SHELBY COUNTY 15, RYLE 13

Ryle junior running back Mitchell Bateman scored on an 88-yard run in the fourth quarter, but the Raiders weren’t able to get the 2-point conversion they needed to tie the score.

Bateman, who also scored the game’s first touchdown on a 14-yard run, finished with 140 yards on seven carries. Ryle ended up with 279 total yards (217 rushing, 62 passing).

Defensive lineman Drew Langsdale had 10 tackles and Ryan Woolf had eight for the Raiders.

SEPT. 26 -- SIMON KENTON 24, RYLE 17

Sophomore quarterback Cameron Racke threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Logan Winkler in the closing seconds to give Simon Kenton the victory in the first Class 6A district game for both teams.

Racke also had two rushing touchdowns for the 6-0 Pioneers. The team's leading rusher was junior Dillion Powell, who picked up 116 yards on 26 carries. He also had 18 yards receiving and 22 yards in kick returns to account for 156 all-purpose yards.

Ryle scored on a blocked punt return by Gavin Brandt to take a 17-14 lead. But the Raiders turned the ball over late in the game when their punter's knee touched the ground trying to field a low snap. That gave Simon Kenton the ball at the Raiders' 14-yard line and set up the winning touchdown pass from Racke to Winkler.

OCT. 3 -- RYLE 48, BOONE COUNTY 13

Ryle took a 35-7 lead in the first half when quarterback Ryan Rytlewski scored on a 1-yard run and then threw two touchdown passes to Grant Arnwein. Ryan Woolf, Colin England and Mitchell Bateman also had rushing TDs for the Raiders.

The Raiders had 494 yards in total offense with most of it coming on the ground. England finished with 169 rushing yards on 18 carries and scored twice. Rytlewski was 9-for-19 for 130 yards in passing.

Boone County’s first scoring play was a 91-yard pass from Jamar Lamb to Carlos Figueroa that cut Ryle’s lead to 13-7 in the first quarter. But the Rebels weren’t able to score again until the third quarter when Randall Douglass reached the end zone on a 17-yard run.

OCT. 10 -- RYLE 21, COVINGTON CATHOLIC 14

With 36 seconds left, senior quarterback Ryan Rytlewski scored on a 1-yard run up the middle to win the game for the Raiders and hand CovCath it’s third consecutive loss.

Rytlewski threw a 26-yard TD pass to Alex Brownell to give Ryle a 14-0 lead. But CovCath tied the score with TD passes from junior quarterback Ryan McGinness to seniors Adam Wagner and Lee McClure in the third quarter. The score remained tied until Rytlewski’s game-winning quarterback sneak in the final seconds capped a 10-play, 64-yard drive for the Raiders.

McGinness completed seven of 10 passes for 200 yards in his first start as CovCath’s quarterback. Ryle junior running back Colin England also had a big game, rushing for 221 yards and one TD.

OCT. 17 -- RYLE 21, CAMPBELL COUNTY 14 OT

After Ryle senior running back Ryan Woolf scored on a 9-yard run on his team’s possession in overtime, Campbell County wasn’t able to get the ball into the end zone.

The victory moved the Ryle Raiders into a tie for second place in the Class 6A district standings. They will finish in a three-way tie for first place if they beat Dixie Heights in their final regular-season game.

Colin England scored on a 30-yard run and 7-yard run in the first half for Ryle. Campbell County’s first touchdown came on a 1-yard run by junior quarterback Carson Plessinger. In the fourth quarter, a 30-yard pass from Plessinger to Gabe Kremer scored the touchdown that sent the game into overtime.

OCT. 24 -- DIXIE HEIGHTS 35, RYLE 24

Dixie Heights senior quarterback Drew Moore threw touchdown passes to Luke Zajac and Luke Caple in the second half to open up a 35-17 lead and the Colonels came away with the victory to take first place in the Class 6A district.

Ryle took a 14-7 lead on a 41-yard touchdown run by Collin England in the first quarter. But the Colonels went ahead in the second quarter on two big plays by junior running back Keegan Barmore. After scoring on a 22-yard touchdown to tie the game, Barmore recovered a fumble on a run into the end zone by Moore to get the points that put his team ahead to stay.

Moore had 100 yards rushing and 145 yards passing for the Colonels, who finished with a 345 total. Ryle ended up with 288 total yards, but the Raiders turned the ball over five times with three pass interceptions and two fumbles.
