Coaches association selects 2014 All-Northern Kentucky Team
Dixie Heights senior Drew Moore was voted first-team quarterback on the 2014 All-Northern Kentucky Team by members of the Northern Kentucky Football Coaches Association.
Moore led the Colonels to their first Class 6A district title during the regular season and their first appearance in a state championship game during the playoffs. He rushed for more than 1,700 yards and 29 touchdowns and passed for more than 1,200 yards and 11 TDs during his team's most successful season.
Moore was also among the senior players selected for the Top 26 Awards by the local coaches. Those awards were presented during the NKFCA post-season banquet on Wednesday, Dec. 10.
Dave Brossart, the first coach to lead the Dixie Heights football team to a state championship game, received the Bob Schneider Coach of the Year Award at the banquet. After a season-opening loss, Dixie Heights won 13 straight games during the regular season and playoffs to make it to the Class 6A state final before losing to Louisville Trinity.
Matt Schmitz of Newport won the Owen Hauck Award that's given to the coach whose team made the biggest improvement. Last year, Newport had a 5-6 record and lost in the opening round of the playoffs. This year's team won two playoff games and finished 8-5.
Bob Burnett of Cooper was named Tom Potter Assistant Coach of the Year. He was on the a coaching staff that took the Jaguars to the
Class 5A state semifinals.
