AUG. 22 -- HOLMES 21, HOLY CROSS 7
Holmes junior running back Delijah Ross-Tyus scored on two long touchdown runs in the fourth quarter to give his team the win. Ross-Tyus broke a 7-7 tie with a 59-yard TD run early in the final period. His 42-yard scoring run with 2:34 remaining sealed the season-opening victory for the Bulldogs.
Ross-Tyus finished with nine carries for 145 yards. Holmes junior quarterback Desean Brumfield completed 10 of 17 passes for 129 yards. The offensive leader for Holy Cross was senior quarterback Hamilton Scott, who had 107 yards passing and 101 rushing for the Indians.
AUG. 29 -- SIMON KENTON 64, HOLY CROSS 7
Simon Kenton had more than 400 yards of total offense and posted its highest point total in the 15 years that Jeff Marksberry has been head coach of the Pioneers. The team's highest previous scoring total under Marksberry was a 63-21 win over Boone County in 2009.
Holy Cross scored the game’s first touchdown on a 4-yard pass from quarterback Hamilton Scott to receiver David Lampke late in the first quarter. But Simon Kenton dominated play the rest of the game and finished with a commanding 455-118 advantage in total yardage.
The Pioneers had 359 yards rushing with Price Burge picking up 94 yards on five carries and Kyle Heflin getting 75 on nine carries. Heflin and quarterback Cam Racke each had two rushing touchdowns. Racke also threw a pair of TD passes to Logan Winkler and Logan Scott.
SEPT. 12 -- BEECHWOOD 58, HOLY CROSS 0
Beechwood posted its first win of the season with an impressive offensive performance that netted 354 yards and nine touchdowns.
Ethan Stringer had three rushing touchdowns for the Tigers. Joe Studer scored on a 3-yard run and caught a 7-yard TD pass from quarterback Kyle Fieger. Beechwood’s defense held Holy Cross to 52 yards in total offense.
SEPT. 19 -- SCOTT 48, HOLY CROSS 14
Scott relied entirely on the run to gain 402 yards and score seven touchdowns with its single-wing offense. The team leader was Roberto London, who picked up 208 yards on 17 carries and scored three times. Deondre Pleasant had 114 yards on 10 carries and two TDs.
Holy Cross finished with 168 yards (108 rushing, 60 passing). Xavier Abernathy scored both of the Indians’ touchdowns on rushing plays.
SEPT. 26 -- HOLY CROSS 48, BROSSART 19
Junior quarterback Hamilton Scott rushed for two touchdowns and completed 9 of 14 passes for 141 yards and two TDs to lead Holy Cross to its first win of the season in the Class 2A district game.
Scott got the scoring started with a 49-yard run. He also threw TD passes to David Lampke and Xavier Abernathy during the first half when the Indians opened up a 35-0 lead. Abernathy was the game's leading rusher with 147 yards on 18 carries.
Brossart senior quarterback Garrett Ahlbrand threw to senior Joe Donnelly for two touchdowns and Jarred Martin scored a rushing TD for the Mustangs.
OCT. 3 -- LLOYD 50, HOLY CROSS 20
The Juggernauts were able to get 423 yards of offense while holding Holy Cross to 246. Lloyd quarterback Hayden Molitor smoked the Holy Cross defense, going 12 for 15 for 194 yards and four touchdowns. Lashaun Townsend caught two of the TD passes and scored on a 50-yard run. Justin Durham also had an impressive night, rushing for 109 yards on 14 attempts and one TD.
Holy Cross running back Xavier Abernathy scored his second touchdown on a 2-yard run late in the first half to make it 21-14. But Lloyd got a touchdown and two-point conversion just before the first half ended and then ran off 21 straight points in the second half.
OCT. 10 -- CONNER 34, HOLY CROSS 8
Conner junior quarterback Kyler Padgett rushed for 96 yards, scored three touchdowns and threw a 94-yard touchdown pass to senior Michael Postel during the win. The Cougars blocked two punts to get good field position for two of their scoring drives.
Xavier Abernathy did all of the scoring for Holy Cross. He tackled Conner’s punter in the end zone for a safety and had a 10-yard touchdown run.
OCT. 17 -- NEWPORT 51, HOLY CROSS 6
Newport's explosive offensive attack compiled 424 total yards (309 rushing, 115 passing) in the Class 2A district win. The Wildcats’ leading rusher was Tyree Bolden, who had 132 yards on 5 carries. He was also the game’s leading scorer, rushing for two touchdowns and catching a 50-yard scoring pass from quarterback Paul Price. The Wildcats' first touchdown came on a 65-yard pass from Price to Rico Hollis.
Holy Cross finished with 148 total yards (110 rushing, 38 passing). The Indians’ only touchdown came on a 17-yard run by Xavier Abernathy early in the fourth quarter.
OCT. 23 -- NEWPORT CENTRAL CATHOLIC 50, HOLY CROSS 21
Junior tailback Jacob Smith rushed for 236 yards on 16 carries and scored a career-high five touchdowns in the victory that clinched NewCath’s eighth consecutive Class 2A district title. Smith got nearly half of his rushing total on two first-quarter touchdown runs that covered 53 and 60 yards. He followed that with scoring runs of 24 and 23 runs in the second quarter that gave NewCath a 35-7 halftime lead.
NewCath’s defense also played a key role in the victory with three pass interceptions and three fumble recoveries. The game’s first touchdown came on a 38-yard interception return by NewCath senior defensive back Nate Enslen less than two minutes after the opening kickoff.
NewCath finished with 372 yards (307 rushing, 65 passing) while Holy Cross had a 251 total (219 rushing, 32 passing). The Indians got much of their yardage in the fourth quarter when they scored twice after the Thoroughbreds replaced their starting defensive players with reserves.
Holy Cross sophomore running back Xavier Abernathy carried the ball on both of his team’s fourth-quarter touchdowns. He finished with a team-high 134 rushing yards on 23 carries.
OCT. 31 -- CAMPBELL COUNTY 44, HOLY CROSS 7
Junior quarterback Carson Plessinger rushed for 137 yards and three touchdowns and completed 9 of 13 passes for 166 yards and two TDs in the Camels’ victory. Plessinger accounted for 303 of his team’s 415 yards in total offense. Running back Josh Carroll picked up 100 yards on nine carries. Gabe Kremer caught seven passes for 136 yards and two TDs.
Holy Cross was limited to 213 yards in total offense. Junior quarterback Hamilton Scott rushed for a team-high 88 yards and scored the Indians’ only touchdown on a 3-yard run in the first quarter. He also competed 7 of 18 passes for 44 yards.
