AUG. 30 -- COVINGTON CATHOLIC 41, DIXIE HEIGHTS 7
Covington Catholic seniors Lee McClure and Logan McDowell scored touchdowns on punt returns in the first four minutes of the game to give their team a 13-0 lead before the offensive unit took its first snap.
The Colonels went on score four more touchdowns and picked up 308 yards in total offense with senior quarterback Adam Wagner leading the way. He completed 17 of 29 passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for a team-high 46 yards and one TD.
Dixie Heights senior quarterback Drew Moore scored his team’s only touchdown on a 2-yard run that cut CovCath’s lead to 20-7 with 3:53 left in the second quarter. But CovCath came right back with an 84-yard scoring drive that ended with McDowell catching a 13-yard pass from Wagner.
McDowell also threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Jake Erpenbeck on a reverse option play in the fourth quarter.
SEPT. 5 -- DIXIE HEIGHTS 48, BEECHWOOD 21
Senior quarterback Drew Moore had a combined total of 220 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead Dixie Heights to the victory. He rushed for 97 yards on 14 carries and completed five of 11 passes for 123 yards.
Moore nearly outgained the entire Beechwood’s team, which had 144 yards passing and 84 rushing for a 228 total. Joe Studer scored on a 1-yard run and 33-yard pass reception for the Tigers.
Luke Zajac also had a big game for the Colonels with 214 all-purpose yards (108 rushing, 106 returns). The Dixie Heights defense had three quarterback sacks and forced Beechwood to punt or turn the ball over on downs on six possessions.
SEPT. 12 -- DIXIE HEIGHTS 27, TURPIN (Ohio) 19
Senior quarterback Drew Moore rushed for 98 yards and two touchdown and caught a TD pass from Seth Caple on a trick play to lead the Dixie Heights offense.
Ben Owens also had a rushing touchdown for the Colonels while Luke Zajac picked up 95 yards on 13 carries and caught four passes for 40 yards.
SEPT. 20 -- DIXIE HEIGHTS 34, NEWPORT CENTRAL CATHOLIC 13
Dixie Heights senior quarterback Drew Moore accounted for 372 of his team's 455 total yards in the victory. He rushed for 194 yards on 12 carries and completed 10 of 13 passes for 178 yards. Moore also scored two touchdowns and threw a TD pass to Gunther Faeth. Cameron Barrett scored the Colonels' other two touchdowns on short runs into the end zone.
NewCath scored twice in the fourth quarter on a 23-yard run by junior running back Jacob Smith and a 25-yard pass from sophomore quarterback Patrick Henschen to senior wide receiver Nate Enslen. Henschen completed 9 of 18 passes for 115 yard, but the Thoroughbreds had only 35 yards on the ground.
SEPT. 26 -- DIXIE HEIGHTS 38, BOONE COUNTY 7
Luke Zajac scored three of Dixie Heights' six rushing touchdowns and finished with 174 all-purpose yards to lead the Colonels in the Class 6A district game. Zajac rushed for 120 yards on 12 carries, caught two passes for 30 yards and had a 24-yard kick return.
Dixie Heights finished with 357 total yards while holding Boone County to 112 yards. The Rebels' only touchdown came on a 67-yard pass from Jared Lamb to Rondell Douglas with 4:57 left in the game.
OCT. 3 -- DIXIE HEIGHTS 43, LEXINGTON TATES CREEK 6
Six players scored touchdowns for Dixie Heights, but senior quarterback Drew Moore was the catalyst for the Colonels’ offense once again. He had a team-high 115 yards rushing and completed 4 of 7 passes for 58 yards and two touchdowns.
Ethan Harrison and Andrew Hedger caught the scoring passes from Moore. The three rushing touchdowns were scored by Luke Zajac, Ben Owens and Cameron Barrett. Defensive lineman Branden Johnson scored the Colonels’ other TD on a fumble recovery.
OCT. 10 -- DIXIE HEIGHTS 43, CAMPBELL COUNTY 0
Senior quarterback Drew Moore rushed for 186 yards on 15 carries and scored four touchdowns to lead Dixie Heights to the Class 6A district win. The Colonels finished with 405 total rushing yards. Cameron Barrett picked up 103 yards on seven carries and Luke Zajac had 93 yards on 12 carries. Both of them also scored a touchdown.
Campbell County was limited to 67 yards rushing and went 0-for-11 passing with two interceptions. The Camels also turned the ball over three times on fumbles during the rain-soaked game.
OCT. 17 -- DIXIE HEIGHTS 36, SIMON KENTON 10
Dixie Heights senior quarterback Drew Moore scored three times in the first half when the Colonels took a 22-3 lead and they went on to win the battle for first place in the Class 6A district.
Moore, who picked up 169 of his team’s 273 rushing yards, also threw a 27-yard TD pass to Luke Zajac in the third quarter to extend the lead to 29-3. Zajac also plays linebacker for the Colonels and scored again when he recovered a fumble and returned it 87 yards to the end zone. Simon Kenton got its only touchdown on a 4-yard run by Kyle Heflin with 1:43 left in the game.
Dixie Heights finished with 325 total yards compared to 236 for Simon Kenton. The team leaders for the Pioneers were quarterback Cam Racke, who completed 14 of 21 passes for 116 yards, and running back Dillion Powell, who had 95 yards on 27 carries.
OCT. 24 -- DIXIE HEIGHTS 35, RYLE 24
Dixie Heights senior quarterback Drew Moore threw touchdown passes to Luke Zajac and Luke Caple in the second half to open up a 35-17 lead and the Colonels came away with the victory to take first place in the Class 6A district.
Ryle took a 14-7 lead on a 41-yard touchdown run by Collin England in the first quarter. But the Colonels went ahead in the second quarter on two big plays by junior running back Keegan Barmore. After scoring on a 22-yard touchdown to tie the game, Barmore recovered a fumble on a run into the end zone by Moore to get the points that put his team ahead to stay.
Moore had 100 yards rushing and 145 yards passing for the Colonels, who finished with a 345 total. Ryle ended up with 288 total yards, but the Raiders turned the ball over five times with three pass interceptions and two fumbles. Ryle’s team leader was senior quarterback Ryan Rytlewski, who completed 12 of 28 passes for 128 yards and rushed for 57 yards on seven carries.
OCT. 30 -- DIXIE HEIGHTS 38, COOPER 8
Dixie Heights will take a nine-game winning streak into the Class 6A playoffs after a dominating performance against Cooper in the regular season finale. The Colonels took a 38-0 lead in the first half and finished with 440 yards in total offense while holding Cooper to 139.
Senior quarterback Drew Moore was the Colonels' standout performer once again. He rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns and completed 3 of 6 passes for 141 yards and two TDs before leaving the game early in the third quarter. Moore finished the regular season with more than 1,000 yards in both rushing and passing and set a team record for career rushing touchdowns with 38.
Gunner Faeth caught both of Moore's touchdown passes. The game's leading rusher was Dixie Heights senior Luke Zajak with 135 yards on seven carries, including a 57-yard touchdown run that gave the Colonels a 28-0 lead in the first quarter.
Cooper's only score came on an 11-yard run by sophomore Jaden Jackson in the third quarter. Senior quarterback Billy Prickett completed 8 of 14 passes for 105 yards.
