Dayton Greendevils

AUG. 22 -- DAYTON 18, BROSSART 13

Dayton junior quarterback Dylan Adams rushed for 42 yards, completed 7 of 15 passes for 83 yards and scored twice in the Greendevils’ season-opening win. The team’s other standout performer was senior running back/linebacker Logan Brewer. In addition to carrying the ball 10 times for 80 yards and a touchdown, he made 11 tackles on defense.

Brossart scored both of its touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The first one came on a 46-yard fumble return by junior Frank Cetrulo. The Mustangs scored again with less than a minute left on the clock and attempted an onside kick, but they were unable regain possession. Brossart finished with 123 yards in total offense.

AUG. 29 -- LLOYD 52, DAYTON 0
 

Lloyd dominated the game with its rushing attack, picking up more than 300 yards and scoring five if its seven touchdowns on 
​the ground.

Sophomore running back Justin Durham carried the ball into the end zone twice for the Juggernauts and junior wide receiver Charles Gaines caught a pair of TD passes from senior quarterback Hayden Molitor.

SEPT. 5 -- PENDLETON COUNTY 39, DAYTON 18 

After Dayton scored the first two touchdowns of the game, Pendleton County ran off 39 straight points to come away with the victory.

The Greendevils were hampered by five fumbles and one interception. Those turnovers overshadowed a good performance by junior quarterback Dylan Adams, who completed 13 of 21 passes for 132 yards and one touchdown. He also picked up 74 yards on 17 carries and scored a TD.   

Dayton sophomore linebacker Carl Matthews finished with a team-high 17 tackles. Senior defensive end Derek Lyons had 15 tackles, including five for a loss.

 

 

SEPT. 12 -- NEW MIAMI (Ohio) 22, DAYTON 14


New Miami took a 14-0 lead in the second quarter and held on for the win. Dayton fullback Logan Brewer scored on a 44-yard run in the third quarter to cut New Miami’s lead to 14-6, but the Ohio team got a touchdown before the quarter ended to regain the momentum. Dylan Adams scored Dayton’s other TD on a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter.

SEPT. 26 -- DAYTON 39, BRACKEN COUNTY 20

Two-way senior starter Logan Brewer rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns on offense and made a team-high 14 tackles on defense for Dayton. Sophomore quarterback  Preston Nickell also had a good game for the Greendevils. He passed for 144 yards and threw touchdown passes to senior Derek Lyons and freshman Seth Chinn.

OCT. 3 -- FAYETTEVILLE 32, DAYTON 12

Fayetteville scored 19 unanswered points in the second half to come away with the victory. Dayton's touchdowns came on a run by Dylan Adams and a pass from Preston Nickell to Matt Grimme in the first half. Adams rushed for 63 yards on 13 carries. Nickell completed 10 of 22 passes for 113 yards. Carl Matthews made a team-high 18 tackles for the Greendevils.

 

OCT. 9 -- LUDLOW 27, DAYTON 22

Junior running back Jeremiah Martin scored on a 1-yard run with 1:16 left on the clock to give Ludlow a 27-22 win over Dayton in the first Class1A district game of the season for both teams. It was the second TD of the game for Martin, who rushed for 138 yards on 23 carries. Logan Doane also scored twice for the Panthers on a 5-yard run and 21-yard pass from sophomore quarterback Devlin Carter.

With 2:30 left in the game, Dayton took a 22-21 lead on a 9-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Preston Nickell to Dylan Adams followed by a 2-point conversion run by Logan Brewer. But Martin returned the ensuing kickoff into Dayton territory and scored the winning touchdown a few plays later.

Ludlow finished with a 250-200 advantage in total yardage. Nickell completed 8 of 14 passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns for the Greendevils. Adams scored twice for Dayton.

OCT. 17 -- BEECHWOOD 62, DAYTON 0

Beechwood put the Class A district game away early as it scored 34 points in the first quarter and went on to post 325 yards of total offense. Meanwhile, the Tigers’ defense forced five turnovers and held Dayton to just 47 yards.

Beechwood scored two of its first-quarter touchdowns on interception returns by linebacker Brett Slusher and defensive back Jack Cottingham. Running back Ethan Stringer also scored twice during that period and finished with 83 rushing yards on seven carries for an 11.9 average. Junior quarterback Kyle Fieger completed 6 of 8 passes for 78 yards and two touchdowns.

OCT. 24 -- BELLEVUE 61, DAYTON 0

Bellevue senior quarterback Tate Grainger completed 28 of 39 passes for 448 yards and six touchdowns in the victory over his team’s neighboring Class 1A district rival.

Grainger has now thrown 28 TD passes this season, which surpasses the previous team record of 27 set by Tyler Ackerson in 2013. Blake Stephenson also broke the team record for career TD receptions on a 22-yard scoring play in the first quarter.

The Tigers’ leading receiver was Zach Barrett, who caught five passes for 148 yards and three TDs. Cameron Chase scored the game’s first touchdown on a fumble return and caught a 2-yard scoring pass from Grainger.

OCT. 31 -- DAYTON 30, CARROLL COUNTY 22

Logan Brewer moved into the quarterback slot and led Dayton to the victory by scoring two touchdowns and throwing a pair of TD passes. The Greendevils took a 24-16 lead when Brewer scored on a 47-yard run in the third quarter. Carroll County returned an interception for a touchdown to make it 24-22, but Brewer threw a 28-yard pass for wide receiver Matt Grimme for the game’s final score.

Brewer completed 5 of 13 passes for 111 yards and rushed for 147 yards on 23 carries. His first TD pass went to tight end Pat Wear.
