REGULAR SEASON GAME REPORTS

AUG. 22 -- COOPER 12, RYLE 3

With the score tied, 3-3, early in the fourth quarter, Cooper junior tailback Torey Cordell-Armstrong scored the game’s only touchdown on a 7-yard run and Mitchell Hollifield kicked the extra point to put their team on top. Marcus Watson, a junior defensive lineman, capped off the Jaguars’ scoring by sacking Ryle quarterback Ryan Rytlewski in the end zone for a
two-point safety with 57 seconds left on the clock.

In the second quarter, Ryle used a flea-flicker pass play that picked up 41 yards to set up its only score. Grant Arnwine caught the pass and was pulled down at the 7-yard line. But the Raiders were unable to advance on the next three plays so Max Bouldin kicked a 22-yard field goal that tied the score.

Cooper finished with 174 total yards (106 rushing, 68 passing) compared to Ryle’s 122 total yards (27 rushing, 95 passing).

AUG. 29 -- COOPER 31, NEWPORT CENTRAL CATHOLIC 0

Cooper senior quarterback Billy Prickett threw three touchdown passes and scored on a 9-yard run while the Jaguars' defense held NewCath scoreless for the first time since the 2009 season.

Prickett completed 12 of 16 passes for 184 yards with nearly half of that total coming on three scoring plays -- 50-yard pass to Chad Michels, 5-yard pass to Dante Hendrix and 35-yard pass to Cole Willging. The Jaguars also had 174 rushing yards with junior Torey Cordell-Armstrong picking up 136 on 16 carries.

NewCath finished with 97 yards passing and 48 rushing. The Thoroughbreds had two passes intercepted, but sustaining drives was the team's main problem. The offensive unit was 5-of-16 on third-down conversions and 2-of-5 on fourth-down conversions.

SEPT. 5 -- COOPER 31, BOONE COUNTY 6

Junior running back Torey Cordell-Armstrong scored two rushing touchdowns and senior quarterback Billy Prickett threw two TD passes to account for most of Cooper’s scoring.

Cooper finished with 458 total yards compared to Boone County’s 197. Armstrong picked up 166 yards on 20 carries and Prickett completed 16 of 232 passes for 213 yards.

Boone County scored late in the fourth quarter on 10-yard pass from Jamar Lamb to Dylon Bishop. That’s the first touchdown the Jaguars have given up this season.

SEPT. 12 -- CAMPBELL COUNTY 17, COOPER 7

Cooper took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter when Torey Cordell-Armstrong caught a screen pass and scored on 32-yard play. But that was the only touchdown the Jaguars were able to get against a Campbell County defense that held them to 122 total yards with the help of five quarterback sacks.

Campbell County turned the ball over on four its first seven offensive possessions before getting its first touchdown on a 3-yard run by Josh Carroll late in the third quarter. A 22-yard field goal by Trey Schierenbeck gave the Camels a 10-7 lead in the fourth quarter and junior quarterback Carson Plessinger scored on a 5-yard run with less than two minutes left to clinch the victory.

Plessinger picked up 210 yards on 29 carries and Carroll had 74 yards on 15 carries for the Camels. Cooper senior quarterback Billy Prickett
completed 13 of 26 passes for 129 yards.

SEPT. 19 -- SIMON KENTON 46, COOPER 0

Simon Kenton dominated play on both sides of the ball, finishing with 515 total yards while limiting Cooper to 64.

Sophomore quarterback Cameron Racke completed 18 of 25 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns for the Pioneers. The team's leading rusher was junior Dillion Powell with 135 yards on 18 carries and three TDs. Logan Winkler caught seven passes for 107 yards and two TDs. He also had 38 yards in kick returns for SK.

Cooper running back Jaden Jackson picked up 63 yards on eight carries, but the SK defense had six tackles for a loss and intercepted two passes.

SEPT. 26 -- COOPER 42, SCOTT 7

Torey Cordell-Armstrong rushed for 144 yards and two touchdows in the first quarter to spark Cooper's win in the Class 5A district game. Senior quarterback Billy Prickett also scored twice for the Jaguars and he completed 11 of 17 passes for 154 yards yards.

On the first play from scrimmage, Cordell-Armstrong swept around the right end and cut back against the flow of defenders to break free on a 65-yard scoring run. A few minutes later, Scott scored on a 60-yard run by senior fullback Eli Sowder, but the Eagles’ didn’t come close to the end zone the rest of the night. They finished with 254 yards of total offense and committed three turnovers.

OCT. 3 -- COOPER 24, CONNER 21

After Cooper took the lead on a 45-yard touchdown run by junior Torey Cordell-Armstrong with 10:04 left in the game, the Jaguars’ defense held Conner to a net total of 16 yards and two first downs on its last two possessions to seal the victory and take sole possession of first place in the Class 5A district.

Cooper finished with 337 total yards. Cordell-Armstrong rushed for 195 on 27 carries and scored twice. Senior quarterback Billy Prickett completed 7 of 16 passes for 104 yards and one TD.

Conner finished with 338 yards in total offense. Junior quarterback Kyler Padgett is the main reason the Cougars moved the ball so well. In addition to passing for 215 yards and one touchdown, he rushed for 112 yards and one TD.

OCT. 10 -- SOUTH OLDHAM 27, COOPER 20

Cooper trailed 20-7 at halftime and wasn’t able to make a comeback in the Class 5A district game. The Jaguars cut it to 20-14 in the third quarter when Dante Hendrix caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from Billy Prickett. After South Oldham scored in the fourth quarter, Hendrix got another touchdown on a 2-yard run to make it a seven-point margin once again. Cooper had a chance to tie the score late in the fourth quarter, but a pass interception sealed the win for the Dragons.

OCT. 24 -- COOPER 54, GRANT COUNTY 14

Cooper posted its highest point total of the season in the victory and finished with a 488-271 advantage in total yardage.

Senior quarterback Billy Prickett completed all 14 of his pass attempts for 195 yards and four touchdowns for the Jaguars. Dante Hendrix and Tyson Jackson each caught two TD passes. Hendrix also scored on an 8-yard run.

OCT. 30 -- DIXIE HEIGHTS 38, COOPER 8

Dixie Heights will take a nine-game winning streak into the Class 6A playoffs after a dominating performance against Cooper in the regular season finale. The Colonels took a 38-0 lead in the first half and finished with 440 yards in total offense while holding Cooper to 139.

Senior quarterback Drew Moore was the Colonels' offensive standout once again. He rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns and completed 3 of 6 passes for 141 yards and two TDs before leaving the game early in the third quarter. Moore finished the regular season with more than 1,000 yards in both rushing and passing and set a team record for career rushing touchdowns with 38.

Gunner Faeth caught both of Moore's touchdown passes. The game's leading rusher was Dixie Heights senior Luke Zajak with 135 yards on seven carries, including a 57-yard touchdown run that gave the Colonels a 28-0 lead in the first quarter.

Cooper's only touchdown came on an 11-yard run by sophomore Jaden Jackson in the third quarter. Senior quarterback Billy Prickett completed 8 of 14 passes for 105 yards.
