AUG. 22 -- DAYTON 18, BROSSART 13
Dayton junior quarterback Dylan Adams rushed for 42 yards, completed 7 of 15 passes for 83 yards and scored twice in the Greendevils’ season-opening win. The team’s other standout performer was senior running back/linebacker Logan Brewer. In addition to carrying the ball 10 times for 80 yards and a touchdown, he made 11 tackles on defense.
Brossart scored both of its touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The first one came on a 46-yard fumble return by junior Frank Cetrulo. The Mustangs scored again with less than a minute left on the clock and attempted an onside kick, but they were unable to regain possession. Brossart finished with 123 yards in total offense.
SEPT. 5 -- BROSSART 40, BRACKEN COUNTY 0
Brossart did all of its scoring in the first half with senior quarterback Clay Kramer sparking the team’s fast start. He scored on a 1-yard run and threw a 48-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Ahlbrand in the first quarter.
Frank Cetrulo was the game’s leading scorer with 10 points. He scored on a 25-yard run and converted four point-after kicks. Brossart’s defense also put some points on the board when Craig Pfefferman returned an interception for a touchdown.
SEPT. 18 -- LUDLOW 16, BROSSART 7
Brossart scored the game's first touchdown on a 5-yard run by Garrett Ahlbrand in the opening seconds of the second quarter, but Ludlow's defense stepped up after that and the Panthers came away with the victory.
In the final seconds of the second quarter, Ludlow sophomore quarterback Devlin Carter dropped back to pass and couldn't find an open receiver, so he ran the ball and scored on a 63-yard play. Carter then ran in a 2-point conversion to give his team an 8-7 halftime lead.
Early in the third quarter, Ludlow defensive back Trent Ledbetter intercepted a pass in the end zone to keep Brossart from taking the lead. It remained a one-point game until the final seconds of the fourth quarter when Ludlow running back Jeremiah Martin scored on a 7-yard run. Martin then threw a pass to Tyler Durham for a 2-point conversion to give the Panthers a 16-7 victory.
Ludlow finished with a 182-137 advantage in total yards. Carter rushed for 97 yards on 20 carries and completed 4 of 12 passes for 25 yards to account for most of the Panthers' offensive total. Ahlbrand and Craig Pfefferman had to share the quarterback duties for Brossart because senior starter Clay Kramer is out of action due to illness.
SEPT. 26 -- HOLY CROSS 48, BROSSART 19
Junior quarterback Hamilton Scott rushed for two touchdowns and completed 9 of 14 passes for 141 yards and two TDs to lead Holy Cross to its first win of the season in the Class 2A district game.
Scott got the scoring started with with a 49-yard run. He also threw TD passes to David Lampke and Xavier Abernathy during the first half when the Indians opened up a 35-0 lead. Abernathy was the game's leading rusher with 147 yards on 18 carries.
Brossart senior quarterback Garrett Ahlbrand threw for two touchdowns to senior Joe Donnelly and Jarred Martin scored a rushing TD for the Mustangs.
OCT. 3 -- NEWPORT 55, BROSSART 0
Brian Burton scored on an 87-yard punt return and two pass receptions in the first half to help Newport open up a 35-0 lead in the Class 2A district game. The other big plays for the Wildcats were a 90-yard kickoff return by Tyree Bolden and 82-yard run by David Lynam.
It was the first shutout of the season for the Newport defense and the first time that Brossart was unable to score against an opponent this year. The Mustangs have been reduced to a 19-player roster that includes freshmen.
OCT. 11 -- LLOYD 49, BROSSART 28
Lloyd scored a touchdown late in the second quarter to take a 28-14 halftime lead and carried that momentum into the second half to post a victory in the Class 2A district game.
Sophomore running back Justin Durham scored four of the seven touchdowns for the Juggernauts. His scoring runs of 53, 40, 26 and 58 yards accounted for 177 of his team's yardage total. Lloyd senior quarterback Hayden Molitor threw TD passes to Josh Gaines and Zach Riddle. The team's final touchdown came on a 75-yard fumble return by sophomore linebacker Alex Runion.
Brossart senior Clay Kramer returned to the starting quarterback position after recovering form mono and threw touchdown passes to Frank Cetrulo and Joe Donnelly. Cetrulo also scored the Mustangs' first touchdown on a 6-yard run.
OCT. 16 -- NEWPORT CENTRAL CATHOLIC 36, BROSSART 0
NewCath scored 36 points in the first quarter and clinched first place in the Class 2A district for the eighth consecutive year with the shutout victory.
Big plays by senior Nate Enslen resulted in two of NewCath’s first-quarter touchdowns. He caught a 52-yard scoring pass from sophomore quarterback Patrick Henschen and returned a punt 55 yards for another TD. Junior running back Jacob Smith also scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and Erik Anderson got the other one on a 42-yard run.
OCT. 24 -- PENDLETON COUNTY 28, BROSSART 27
Brossart scored back-to-back touchdowns in the fourth quarter on a 45-yard interception return by Garrett Ahlbrand and a 4-yard run by Clay Kramer. But Pendleton County blocked the point-after kick following Kramer’s touchdown to pull out a one-point victory.
After falling behind 20-0 in the first quarter, Brossart started its comeback when Jake Martin scored on a fumble recovery in the second quarter and Ahlbrand caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Kremer in the third quarter.
OCT. 30 -- GALLATIN COUNTY 40, BROSSART 27
Brossart senior quarterback Clay Kramer threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to Joe Donnelly that tied the score, 20-20, in the third quarter. But Gallatin County running back Chris Brown scored back-to-back touchdowns to put his team back on top and the Wildcats came away with the victory.
Garrett Ahlbrand also caught a TD pass from Kremer. Brossart's rushing touchdowns were scored by juniors Logan Schoultheis and Frank Cetrulo. The Mustangs finished the season with a 1-8 record, but coach Paul Wiggins Jr. expects his small-school team to be more competitive next season when it returns to the Class 1A level.
