Senior quarterback Justin Kline completed 3-of-7 passes for 119 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Walton-Verona offense to a season-opening win over Bellevue. The Bearcats also had 197 yards rushing in the game that was called at halftime due to lightning in the area.
Bellevue quarterback Tate Grainger completed 14 of 26 passes for 124 yards, but he was intercepted three times. The Tigers also lost the ball twice on fumbles for a total of five turnovers in two quarters.
AUG. 30 -- FINNEYTOWN 27, BELLEVUE 20
After Bellevue tied the score, 20-20, on a 6-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Tate Grainger, Finneytown senior Dante Goodwin returned the ensuing kickoff 67 yards for what proved to be the winning TD.
Bellevue’s other scoring plays were a 2-yard run by senior running back Alec Hazeres and a 22-yard pass from Grainer to senior wide receiver Nate Arnzen.
SEPT. 5 -- BELLEVUE 48, GALLATIN COUNTY 21
Bellevue senior quarterback Tate Grainger threw four touchdown passes and scored twice on short runs for the Tigers. Senior receiver Zach Barrett caught three of Grainger’s TD passes, including a 70-yard scoring strike in the second quarter that gave their team a 42-6 halftime lead.
Grainger ended up completing 15 of 23 passes for 289 yard. Barrett had four receptions for 134 yards.
SEPT. 12 -- FAIRVIEW 47, BELLEVUE 22
Bellevue took a 22-14 lead in the second quarter when Zach Barrett scored on a 36-yard interception return, but Fairview ran off 33 straight points to come away with the win.
Bellevue quarterback Tate Grainger threw a 51-yard pass to Nick Ackerson and a 39-yard pass to Alec Hazeres to account for the Tigers other two touchdowns. Grainger completed 25 of 50 passes for a career-high 370 yards.
SEPT. 19 -- BELLEVUE 50, CARROLL COUNTY 14
Bellevue senior quarterback Tate Grainger had a big night, completing 23 of 31 passes for 356 yards and six touchdowns.
Nick Anderson and Zach Barrett each had two touchdown receptions for the Tigers. The longest scoring play was a 54-yard pass from Grainger to Blake Stephenson in the second quarter.
SEPT. 26 -- BELLEVUE 52, OWEN COUNTY 0
Bellevue quarterback Tate Grainger continued his exceptional senior season by passing for 195 yards and three touchdowns and scoring a pair of touchdowns. Grainger's third TD pass was caught by senior Blake Stephenson, who became the team's all-time leader with 1,316 receiving yards in his varsity career.
Grainger may be on track to break a record himself. In Bellevue’s first six games, he has passed for 1,477 yards and 16 TDs.
OCT. 3 -- BELLEVUE 32, HOLMES 22
Senior quarterback Tate Grainger threw three touchdown passes in the second quarter to give Bellevue a 26-14 halftime lead and the Tigers went on to claim a victory against their Class 4A opponent.
Grainger completed 18 of 24 passes for 244 yards and four touchdowns in the game. He’s one of the leading passers in the state with 1,721 yards and 20 touchdowns in seven games. Blake Stephenson caught two of the second-quarter TD passes for the Tigers. Cameron Chase also scored twice, one on a 4-yard pass from Grainger and another on a 6-yard run.
Holmes running back Delijah Ross-Tyus scored the game’s first touchdown on a 23-yard run and the Bulldogs took a 14-6 lead in the second quarter on a 43-yard pass from quarterback Desean Brumfield to tight end Andrew Arnold. But the Bulldogs weren’t able to score again until the fourth quarter.
OCT. 10 -- BEECHWOOD 41, BELLEVUE 18
Beechwood took a 28-0 lead in the first quarter and rolled to an easy win in the Class 1A district game. Ethan Stringer rushed for 149 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Beechwood offense while the defense held Bellevue scoreless until late in the third quarter.
The game was played in a steady rain that hampered Bellevue’s ability to run its passing offense. Senior quarterback Tate Grainger completed only two of 10 passes. One of his errant passes was intercepted by Beechwood junior lineman Justin Overstreet, who returned it 45 yards for a touchdown. Bellevue did rush for more than 200 yards, including touchdown runs of 57 and 16 yards by Cameron Chase.
OCT. 17 -- BELLEVUE 20, LUDLOW 14
Bellevue was able to overcome three turnovers to pull out a win in the Class A district game that wasn’t decided until the final seconds.
Bellevue took a 20-14 lead on a 1-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Tate Grainger with 5:48 left on the clock. It looked like Ludlow had a chance to win the game after a 62-yard pass play from sophomore quarterback Devlin Carter to Trent Ledbetter moved the ball to the 8-yard line. But the Panthers weren’t able to put the ball in the end zone as Carter was sacked for a loss on two of the next four plays.
Bellevue had the bigger night offensively, compiling 332 yards of total offense compared to Ludlow's 170. Ludlow's defense kept the game close by intercepting a pass and causing two fumbles. Both quarterbacks had similar passing stats. Ludlow sophomore Devlin Carter completed 6 of 18 for 134 yards and one touchdown while Bellevue senior Tate Grainger went 7-for-18 for 130 yards and two touchdowns.
Bellevue receiver Zach Barrett had four catches for 84 yards and a touchdown. Most of Bellevue's offense, however, came from Alec Hazeres, who ran for 158 yards on 30 attempts.
OCT. 24 -- BELLEVUE 61, DAYTON 0
Bellevue senior quarterback Tate Grainger completed 28 of 39 passes for 448 yards and six touchdowns in the victory over his team’s neighboring Class 1A district rival.
Grainger has now thrown 28 TD passes this season, which surpasses the previous team record of 27 set by Tyler Ackerson in 2013. Blake Stephenson also broke the team record for career TD receptions on a 22-yard scoring play in the first quarter.
The Tigers’ leading receiver was Zach Barrett, who caught five passes for 148 yards and three TDs. Cameron Chase scored the game’s first touchdown on a fumble return and caught a 2-yard scoring pass from Grainger.
